Home visits are for medical, not social or personal reasons.

Not all problems require a home visit and it may be more appropriate to give advice over the phone on how to manage the condition. Home visits are based on clinical need, if the visiting Doctor feels a home visit is not required then the visit will be declined.

To request a home visit, please call 0191 282 1010 before 10.30am as this makes organising a visit on the same day much easier. All requests for home visits are passed on to the appropriate Doctor for triage.

Home visit requests received after 10.30am will be classed as a “late request” and may only receive advice over the phone.

If you require a home visit but reside outside the practice boundary, please contact the practice first. If we (the practice) determine you need access to services local to where you live, we may ask you to call NHS 111.

In these circumstances NHS 111 will direct you to the local service that has been established for patients such as you. This local service could be a GP practice near to where you live, the local walk-in or urgent care centre, A&E or minor injuries unit.

This local service will then decide if it is appropriate for you to attend an urgent face to face appointment with a healthcare professional or if a home visit is needed, based on your individual circumstances.
